English council catalogue: JobNearby has catalogued all 317 English principal councils as potential official sources. A catalogue entry is not permission or a live connection. Each source stays off until its exact permission reference, permitted fields, revocation contact, technical scope and named review are recorded. Councils can also advertise a genuine vacancy free.

A council appears in JobNearby search only after permission and its governed connector pass the same freshness, employer-identity, closing-date and removal controls as every other imported source.

The discovery review on 2026-07-25 covered every Scottish council area, Welsh principal area and Northern Irish local government district. It identified 47 normal listing pages that may be technically suitable for governed review. Technical discovery is not permission: every route remains off until its rights evidence, scope and named review pass. The remaining 18 routes are unresolved, unavailable or blocked and are not guessed.

Any subsequently approved route must still pass exact employer, domain, closing-date, freshness and removal controls before a vacancy appears in search. Councils can also advertise a genuine vacancy free.

1. Every 6 hours

   When the connector is enabled, a complete paginated sweep is scheduled every six hours at minute 15, with at least two seconds between requests.

2. After validation

   Publish page by page

   Valid new and changed records become available after their database transaction succeeds. A malformed record is skipped rather than guessed.

3. Every minute

   Apply closing dates

   Elapsed source closing dates stop a vacancy appearing as active even before background maintenance updates its stored status.

4. Fail closed

   Require authoritative removal evidence

   Unstable list pagination is never treated as proof of deletion. Early removal requires repeated not-found responses from the official vacancy detail endpoint.

The six-hour cadence is JobNearby's conservative operating rule, not a freshness promise made by DfE. If a sweep is incomplete or invalid, the previous approved data is retained and the failure is logged.

Employer-direct listings leave public search as soon as the employer closes the role, marks a candidate found, reaches the stated closing date or reaches its 20- or 60-day listing limit. A non-indexed record may remain for 60 days so a saved link explains that applications are closed instead of sending candidates to a dead apply page.
